Автор: Keriby 13.11.2005 - 20:00 |
Автор: ObrazЦovbly SameЦ 13.11.2005 - 20:41 |

Hi there :). I already thought about a place like this and I will join your club with great pleasure, because I think practise is very important for language learning. I can't say my English is fluent enough, but I'll try to take part in the discussion and I hope it would be useful not only for me, but for other members of the community too. I will appreciate if you would notice me about all the mistakes I've made. Best regards, Dmitry |

Автор: skazo4nik 25.01.2006 - 23:52
Good evening, LLL. I'm glad you you're trying to help me, but.. there is no mistake. The word "notice" has a couple of translations. Being more specific: http://lingvo.yandex.ru/en?text=notice&st_translate=1 |
Автор: LLL 26.01.2006 - 20:48 |
My dear friend! I'm sorry but I am not keen on reading web-site dictionaries. And any belinqual dictionaries (English - Russian) as well. Sometimes I consult dictionaries English-German (as an example). And I am really keen on reading semilinqual dictionaries. So, the link you've kindly recommended, was unfortunatly unusefull for me. I do agree with you, that words have lots of meanings but to speak a foreign language is not just combaing words in a certain order. And you will learn a lot of interesting about words and their meanings, those, in its turn, depend on a context, if you read any book about the theory of translation. Still it would be more correct to use the above mentioned words, but it is up to your choise wheather to be correct from the point of view of language or from the point of view of Lingvo.yandex.ru Good luck |
Автор: skazo4nik 26.01.2006 - 21:52 |
LLL The only thing I kept in mind posting this link, was not to give you an additional tool for learning language, but to show the reason of using this word. Certainly, for me as Russian it is hard to choose the correct form, especially without big spoken practice. For now, after reading some articles and terrorizing Google, I know that it would be better to use the "notify" verb. Thanks for your reply :). |
Автор: ASMADEUS 26.01.2006 - 21:56
Mam,maybe it 'll seem slightly impolite to you,but the spelling of this word is "whether". |
Автор: ASMADEUS 26.01.2006 - 22:05
Speaking a foreign language is SPEAKING a foreign language(sorry:) ) It consits of : pronauncation, comBINing the words in a certain order(but I must say, that there's such a tendency in modern English - comBINing the words in chaotic order.Almost chaotic,of course.) . I think, that the purpose of translation is to keep the meaning of the text close to the basic. So,some words can be translated in a different way or replaced by the other similar words. |
Автор: LLL 27.01.2006 - 21:31
The meaning of translation is to present the text from the point of view of a native speaker. In technical translation also from the point of view of a professional.
Unfortunatly, there is no possibility to check the pronauncation within this club skazo4nik Then you read the artical in a dictionary you should pay attention to the order of meanings for the specified word, it shows you the how often the word is used in that meaning, especially for the words with long list of meanings. |

Привет Аглицкий клуб!По-моему вы скончались,не успев родиться.Нужный язык,не такой,конечно,как китайский,но неинтересный. Я тут как-то объяву давала насчет итальянского языка,так вот многие заинтересовались,но на занятия так и не отважились.Вот я и думаю,может в альтернативу итальянский клуб создать?Могу провести коллективное заседание на самую любимую тему всех студентов:ненормативная лексика итальянского языка. Как вам? |

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen! This is very nice and helpful topic. But we have to chat here in English, otherwise how we can develop our language skills? Are you hesitating? Don't worry, your English is enough! Just don't be shy! So what we are talking about? What is the theme? If there is no theme yet, let me propose - let's talk about the places in a world where we have been and where we couldn't avoid using English. Could it be good for an opening? Just a couple of word about speaking English. I guess, we could try to organize Skype talking, that usually works perfectly even if there are thouthands of kilometers between the people. |

(now,if you want speak Englesh you souldn"t travel to England) - да не, я думаю это человек просто поприкалывался А если серьезно, то лучше тут не "travel", а "leave for England". Travel - лучше употреблять в общем смысле, "путешествовать вообще". I have been living in Pushkino about a year . Tell me what sightseeings of this sity (or village ) do you know. |
Автор: SoccerStudio 01.12.2006 - 00:46 |
Well, Pushkino is neither "sity" nor village, this is just small city, means practically - town. I guess, I know most of known landmarks here, but I really cannot imagine, which of those landmarks could be interesting for you. Eight years ago here was a real sightseeing - the Summer Theater, but this wooden building was completely destroyed by fire. So, the new age gives us a new landmarks - new memorial or new Pushkin-Krylov monument. |
Автор: Ира 02.12.2006 - 15:38 |
I wish I could see the Summer Theater in Pushkino. It`s unbelievable anyone hadn`t deсided to rebuilt it. Ore such a person does exist? (I am sorry for possible grammer mistakes, but I had lost all the dictionaries, while we`d been mooving for Pushkino). |
Автор: SoccerStudio 02.12.2006 - 18:14 |
Well, the situation with such cultural objects is rather sad. Here you can see the photo of Summer Theater and get some info about other landmarks of Pushkino, most of them don't exist any more. http://www.mosoblnews.com/news/kultura.php?ID=1011&print=Y PS. I am not going to care about your (or anyone's) grammer mistakes. If the message is understandable - it is enough for me. |

Good luck! |
Автор: Ира 03.12.2006 - 13:35
Oh? I have`t seen this rules. And I have nothing against it. Then let us pay attention to each others mistakes. But there are some grammer occasions when I have no other argument but "language intuition". |
Автор: SoccerStudio 03.12.2006 - 14:58
What I can say about... I am not a guru. Even when I speak or write in Russian, I don't remember any rules, even if I don't make mistakes. This is just a language feeling or intuition. The situation with English is the same. I speak English based on my internaional experiences (four years outside Russia). Sometimes I can make a mistake, sometimes I can catch mistakes of others people... But I don't consider myself as a person who has any rights to teach. |

Sorry for interrupting your discussion, but this story is too good to be hidden from you. I hope it'll make you smile. BOY ASKS: "Daddy, how was I born?" DAD SAYS: "Ah, my son, I guess one day you will need to find out anyway! Well, you see your Mom and I first got together in a chat room on MSN. Then I set up a date via e-mail with your Mom and we met at a cyber-cafe. We sneaked into a secluded room, where your mother agreed to a download from my hard drive. As soon as I was ready to upload, we discovered that neither one of us had used a firewall, and since it was too late to hit the delete button, nine months later a blessed little Popup appeared and said: You"ve Got Male!" |

By the way there is real English Club in Moscow - MECC (Moscow English Conversation Club). This Club is set up specially to practise speaking english. Anybody can visit this place, there are a lot of native speakers there, people from the USA, England, Australia and so on. So you have chance to conversate with them without problem about any topic. It`s quite interesting some times. English of russian visitors is from beginners to advanced. I have been visiting this club for about two years so recommend you. It`s located in " Чеховский культурный центр", near metro station "Чеховская". |

This is for those who like puzzles that require lateral thinking and a high level of intelligence... Scenario: You are driving in a car at a constant speed. On your left side is a valley and on your right side is a fire engine traveling at the same speed as you. In front of you is a galloping pig which is the same size as your car and you cannot overtake it. Behind you is a helicopter flying at ground level. Both the giant pig and the helicopter are also traveling at the same speed as you. What must you do to safely get out of this highly dangerous situation? |

Are You A Real Man? Alien beings from a highly advanced society visit the Earth, and you are the first human they encounter. As a token of intergalactic friendship, they present you with a small but incredibly sophisticated device that is capable of curing all disease, providing an infinite supply of clean energy, wiping out hunger and poverty, and permanently eliminating oppression and violence all over the entire Earth. You decide to: - Present it to the President of the United States. - Present it to the Secretary General of the United Nations. - Take it apart. As you grow older, what lost quality of your youthful life do you miss the most? - Innocence - Idealism - Cherry bombs When is it okay to kiss another male? - When you wish to display simple and pure affection without regard for narrow-minded social conventions. - When he is the Pope. (Not on the lips.) - When he is your brother and you are Al Pacino and this is the only really sportsman-like way to let him know that, for business reasons, you have to have him killed. In your opinion, the ideal pet is: - A cat. - A dog. - A dog that eats cats. You have been seeing a woman for several years. She's attractive and intelligent, and you always enjoy being with her. One leisurely Sunday afternoon the two of you are taking it easy. You're watching a football game; she's reading the papers when she suddenly, out of the clear blue sky, tells you that she thinks she really loves you, but, she can no longer bear the uncertainty of not knowing where your relationship is going. She says she's not asking whether you want to get married; only whether you believe that you have some kind of future together. What do you say? - That you sincerely believe the two of you do have a future, but you don't want to rush it. - That although you also have strong feelings for her, you can not honestly say that you'll be ready anytime soon to make a lasting commitment, and you don't want to hurt her by holding out false hope. - That you cannot believe the Broncos called a drawplay on third and seventeen. Okay, so you have decided that you truly love a woman and you want to spend the rest of your life with her, sharing the joys and the sorrows the world has to offer, come what may. How do you tell her? - You take her to a nice restaurant and tell her after dinner. - You take her for a walk on a moonlit beach, and you say her name, and when she turns to you, with the sea breeze blowing through her hair and the stars in her eyes, you tell her. - Tell her what? One weekday morning your wife wakes up feeling ill and asks you to get your three children ready for school. Your first question to her is: - "Do they need to eat or anything?" - "They're in school already?" - "There are three of them?" When is it okay to throw away a set of veteran underwear? - When it has turned the color of a dead whale and developed new holes so large that you're not sure which ones were originally intended for your legs. - When it is down to eight loosely connected underwear molecules and has to be handled with tweezers. - It is never okay to throw away veteran underwear. A real guy checks the garbage regularly in case somebody and we are not naming names, but this would be his wife is quietly trying to discard his underwear (which she is frankly jealous of because the guy seems to have a more intimate relationship with it than with her). What, in your opinion, is the most reasonable explanation for the fact that Moses led the Israelites all over the place for forty years before they finally got to the Promised Land? - He was being tested. - He wanted them to really appreciate the Promised Land when they finally got there. - He refused to ask for directions. What is the human race's single greatest achievement? - Democracy. - Religion. - Remote control. |

Fiyalka If you want to improve your writing and grammar skills there is only one way - you have to write as much as possible in english. At the same time it`s quite boring to do only lessons from textbooks so I would like to advice you to start correspondence with english speaking penpals. There are a lot of special english sites in internet. The main point you must correct your grammar mistakes and try not to do them again. I am sure in 3-4 months everything will be allright. Good luck! |

You can go to Great Britain, Study cool in Cambridge or Iton, And like Bush be president, If you can, but if you can`t. Live in Pushkino, it`s funny, Here`s your dady and your mummy, And your friends, they speak like you, Liver whispers: "I love you". Trouble with English and you`re busy? Yes, there are a lot of useful and interesting web-sites for learning english. I`d like to recommend: www.real-language.ru www.englishtips.org www.englishclass.ru www.wsu.edu At the same time it depends on what kind of skill you are going to improve: speaking, listening, grammar and so on. So you should choose web-site more acceptable for you and to drill this skill as much as possible, preferably 4-8 hours every day. Only in this case you`ll get good effect. And one more point - language barrier. It`s impossible to overcome it without language practical training. It`s better to speak and make a mistake than keep silence! Good luck! |

Little tricks for learning English: Well sure learning foreign languages is quite hard work but you can help yourself by some language tricks. Try to write in english everywhere wehere it`s possible, in your notebook, in your computer, in your personal organizer etc. It`s quite useful for writing english. When you are out try to translate into english all signs, billboards, ads in metro, on the streets and so on. Find englishspeaking penpals in Internet, your interesting correspondence and exchange of letters will be very useful for your english skills. Do you go to Moscow to work by local train? Great. You can read english books there during an hour every morning and evening. And read, read and read english books in original as much as possible. You`ll get vocabulary in english. It`s hard to read in english only the first 20-30 books, later you will read them with joy. |

victorian I think it's a good advice in general, but it sounds like translated from Russian. An English speaking person would not express his/her thoughts in such a manner. |
Автор: LLL 30.03.2009 - 21:12
As I found out the cheapest is around 300-350 for a group lesson. |
Автор: victorian 30.03.2009 - 22:12
I meant personal lessons, tet a tet. The cheapest lessons are not the best one. |
Автор: victorian 30.03.2009 - 22:18
The main point is I wrote for russian people. |
Автор: LLL 30.03.2009 - 23:25
In my opinion, if a group lesson is abot 300 RUR, a private one will cost you more.
So you did not got my idea. As a translator I can assure you it is really of a great importance not only to translate words, but to translate them correctly. If you refer to the books in the theory of translation you will find out that word for word translation is not a best way to transfer the information from one language to another. For instance: Naked conductor runs under the carriage - "вдоль вагона бежал голый проводник" ( correct is : вдоль вагона проходил оголенный провод). So there is a big difference between the correct translation and word for word translation. But still the main point was not to offend you, but to give you an opportunity to improve the text once rewritten. |
Автор: victorian 31.03.2009 - 07:00
You are right, I know a private lesson will cost 1500 - 2000 RUR in Moscow but for Pushkino it`s unreal tip. And I didn`t translate anything here. I just put up some information that was understood quite correct by users. |
Автор: LLL 31.03.2009 - 16:41 |
victorian I see, the most useless thing is a free advice. Well , I new it before. |
Автор: victorian 01.04.2009 - 11:59 |
Well don't be offended please. We just speak about different things. By the way are you translator or interpreter? Why didn`t you write here before? |
Автор: LLL 01.04.2009 - 14:01
You've, probably, got me wrong. No, I did you can find my posts on the previous pages. Actually I'm a housewife, but I've graduated as translator-interpreter in 1999.
An example of some kind of a correctly understood information is: "Гражданина, ты туда не ходи, ты сюда ходи. А то снег в башка попадет, совсем мертвый будешь." © So, people understood not to go there because of the danger. But it was not a pleasure to hear that. |
Автор: victorian 01.04.2009 - 15:21
I would like to note it sounds like translated from Russian and against english grammar. It`s like Нет, да туда ходи, сюда ходи... Right variant is - Yes, I did you can find.... |
Автор: LLL 04.04.2009 - 00:46 |
So, the best is Why didn`t you write here before? But why? I did. |

You can use them for your English and enjoy at the same time. "Don`t dream it`s over" There is freedom within There is freedom without Try to catch the deluge in a papercup There's a battle ahead, Many battles are lost But you'll never see the end of the road while you're travelling with me Hey now, hey now Don't Dream It's Over Hey now, hey now When the world comes in They come, they come To build a wall between us We know that they won't win Now I'm towing my car There's a hole in the roof My possesions are causing me suspicion but there's no proof In the paper today Tales of war and waste But you turn right over to the T.V. page Hey now, hey now Don't Dream It's Over Hey now, hey now When the world comes in They come, they come To build a wall between us We know that they won't win Now I'm walking again To the beat of a drum And I'm counting the steps to the door of your heart Only the shadows ahead Barely clearing the roof Get to know the feeling of liberation and relief Hey now, hey now Don't Dream It's Over Hey now, hey now When the world comes in They come, they come To build a wall between us We know they won't win We know they won't win Hey now, hey now Hey now, hey now Hey now, hey now Hey now, hey now |

Hello everybody, I would like to participate in this topic. Somehow, must say to my surprise, never saw it before although i am participating in this forum for quite some time. What are we discussing??? (sorry for stupid question, just don't want to go through previous 3 pages or so to find out) |
Автор: victorian 22.04.2009 - 07:51 |
Well currently we discuss the preferable ways of learning english and it would be interesting to know your opinion about this subject. And how do you keep your English all right constantly. Do you read ant english/american books in origin, communicate with native speakers here and etc ? |
Автор: Вал 23.04.2009 - 00:05 |
The only way of learning foreign language is through a constant exposure to it. My job requires me to communicate, both verbally and in writing, with people whose second language is english for past 14 years. Thus I acquired some little english. If i don't practice for more than a month, which usually happens during my annual vacations, i am little bit tensed whenever i speak or write. But this usually goes away after some minutes, quite literally. Sorry, fellows, i am unable to give any you new advise here, if you want to learn, you must speak, read and write. By the way, i find english to be easier than russian. English, in my humble opinion, is more general language than russian. Our russian vocabuliry is much richer, in english to express yourself you basically need to think logically and use common words (like "to get") in relation to a particular situation. Another encouraging thing is that most of the english speakers, due to english being probably the most common language in the world, are actually speaking "globalish". Of course, native british being an exception. Couple of weeks ago, i heard on BBC interesting story about globalish. In short, four guys - a portugese, korean, japanese and british, during business meeting are having diffuculties of understanding one another. But the former (portugese, korean and japanese) can understand each other much better, than any of them can understand british fellow. |

Thank you for your corrections, appreciate it. Fully agree with your points one, two and three. However, points 4 and 5 are questionable. Don't you think? When I write in a hurry, and it is always the case for some reasons, I always tend to forget "a"s and "an"s!!! |
Автор: victorian 23.04.2009 - 09:32 |
You are absolutely right about English. It`s more laconic language than russian one. But at the same time it has nice unique sounding. And one more interesting thing - slang. Once my son being the fan of american hip-hop singer Eminem asked me to translate one of his song. I got the text of it but it was impossible to translate even with the special dictionary. Well I decided to consult with one american guy here in Moscow. I said, help me, I can`t understand this text and american answered - sorry I can`t understand it too... I was shoked. And do you have any problem with slang? How often do you use it? |
Автор: LLL 23.04.2009 - 13:01
From my point of view you were retelling a story that took place in the past. So I would advice to use perfect continuous in spite of present continuous that expresses a currently happening action. Further due to coordination of tenses you will be forced to use past forms. |
Автор: Вал 23.04.2009 - 18:00 |
I actually never use the slang for one reason - I do not understand it. I interact with a lot of americans in course of my job, and I must say that most of the people i know do not identify themselves with the slang sub-culture. It appears to be the language of the poor or disadvantaged, an output product of great "melting pot" - mixture of all cultures compactly housed within poor suburbs in america. |
Автор: victorian 23.04.2009 - 18:21 |
Вал By the way have you been in any english speaking country? If yes, what was your impression and did you have any language problems? |

Автор: victorian 13.11.2009 - 11:30 |
Yes I use English for my work every day and sometimes night. Well you know this language sounds like musik for me! When I have particular mood I write poems, for example this one: Excursion in Pushkino I live in Pushkino and know, This town`s beautiful and nice, Don`t you believe me? Well, let`s go! I`ll show places, girls and guys. First railway station, every morning We go there, if you ain`t VIP, We get on train, look at the window, Yawn 2-3 times and fall asleep. Next`s our Broadway, way through town, I like this street, (and my respect), The nicest girls and nicest buildings You!ll see on Moscow prospect. If you are bored, it`s not problem, There is park, please sit on benches, I garantee, in 1-2 hours You`ll catch a lot of new adventures! I like this town, central market, Old dranken man, who sings so sad, This is my place, it`s our Russia, Can you choose better? No…нет. Well, and what about your hobby? Have you been in Italy? By the way there is something common between Italians and Pushkino inhabitants. |

Dear Victorian, I think you have a poetic talent! I like your poem and it made me smile, especially phrase about benches and adventures. I remember you also wrote one about river Serebryanka. It was also very nice. I often read this link when I see new messages, but never write. I don't even know what to write because there is no fixed topic except our love to English language. Victorian, is it possible to make additional forum in this link like girls made in handiwork? There we can discuss our favourite poems, movies, songs in English, exchange useful links and so on. P.S. English language sounds like music for me too. |

Dear Dinka, thank you very much for your good words. Well it`s great idea to discuss the art things in English. But we can do it here in English Club. There is no need to create a new topic. OK, let`s start! |
Автор: Dinka 18.11.2009 - 23:18 |
Dear Victorian, well, let's start with music:) As for me I can't say that I have one favourite song or music style. Our life is so dynamic and time goes so fast that I prefer melodies that help me to rest and relax. Sometimes I come across such records that I'd like to listen again and again. The last one I liked was «What a wonderful world» peformed by Stacey Kent. If it's interesting to you I can write the words of that song here. The words are rather simple but melody and manner of singing impressed me a lot. And what's about you? What type of music do you prefer? |
Автор: Ежик 19.11.2009 - 16:19
That's pretty good!!! I've became closer to Pushkino
I like many interesting things. These are photography, Red Sea fishes, hedgehogs, foreign languages, travelling, reading and so on...
Not yet, but I'm going to I'm waiting for my business trip to Sicilia
They speak in a loud voice and do too many gestures per minute?
Dinka, nice to see you in the Club Did you mean the old song of Louis Armstrong? It is very nice. I've never heard that song performed by Stacey Kent. She is a great jazz singer, do you like jazz? |
Автор: Dinka 20.11.2009 - 00:24 |
Ежик, it's a pleasure for me to become a member of this community. Yes, you are right about the song and it's origin. I think you will like it in her performance. And I like jazz. I also like such music bands as the Beatles, Queen, Roxette. And what are your music preferences? P.S. Do you want me to call you Ежик or Hedgehog in this topic? |
Автор: victorian 20.11.2009 - 09:22 |
Well really music is something. I like it very much. As a matter of fact music is a reflection of our soul. I like any type of music, it depends on my mood. And this song "What A Wonderful World ", sure it`s the masterpiece. My douther learns English now and I asked her to study it by heart, I`m sure it`s a good and interesting way for learning English: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Zc8OmxpXr4 Well and musik doesn`t know any borders and understandable for anyone http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=2539741 By the way there is a very nice italian classical song, I don`t know any words and singer only tune but I try to find it someday. I hope Hedgehog will help me, ok? Well and this is one of my favourite songs - Crowded house - "Don`t dream its over" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbOg3T8_Ba0 |

victorian It's not fair!!! It was my question about music instruments (just kidding) I took practical lessons of playing the classic guitar when was a schoolgirl. I used to play a lot when I was a student. I rarely do it now, usually I play the guitar when friends come and we play in turn and sign all together. To make a band ... Alluring proposal. Can play solo ) I also like to sing a lot. victorian, what type of guitar do you play? I have an acoustic guitar Thanks for sharing a "piece" of good mood with us:) Hedgehog As about Kylie Minogue's work, do you prefer her first or last songs? Dear friends, where will start our musical rehearsal?) Grepap, welcome to the club. Take the dictionary (http://www.multitran.ru, for example) and join our conversation:) Do you need English for your job? For many years I also like the song "Eternal Flame" by Bangles. I hope this time I found the original singer:) So many music groups sang it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfsCAJnx2JI&feature=related |
Автор: Ежик 02.12.2009 - 17:08 |
Dinka You (and anybody else) won't like my voice so please exclude me from your band Actually, I don't know Kylie's songs I prefer Nick Cave, especially his "Murder Ballads" album. My favourite song from this album is "Henry Lee" featuring PJ Harvey. "Eternal Flame" is great!!! I'll follow your link later to enjoy this song!!! I see that you're a "musical" person. Does your baby like you singing? |

Wow, I`ve got this italian song! I was on the street near musical shop in Moscow and suddenly heard it. I asked that shop girl about the song`s name and here it is - "Caruso memoriam", magical melody and voice. I do hope dear Hedgehog will translate the text for us http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_y8XW1dD9M&feature=related |

Dear friends it`s great! It`s almost professional music band! Hedgehog is a drummer, Dinka and me are guitar players. And it`s obvious we`ll rehearse on the bank of Serebryanka. But one important point - only one box of beer during one concert, not more, OK? Well I have an acoustic guitar but to be honest my douther plays better then me now. By the way Dinka what kind of songs do you like to sing? Remember we`ll sing only in english We can start with this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=heceBw4UtNs |

Dear friends, first, answering your questions. Hedgehog, my son is too young to say me his opinion about my voice and singing. For me mummy's voice and her singing is the best thing in the world. I mostly sing him lullabies now. Victorian, I have some songs in English in my repertory . These are almost all camp songs which I learned in the USA while working there. Dear friends, mucis is closely connected with poems. One of my favourite is "If" by RUDYARD KIPLING http://www.poetryloverspage.com/poets/kipl...ipling_ind.html What is about yours? |

Well lovely song and poem! As a matter of fact it seems to me each song and poem connects us with the certian moment of our life and can return us to that happy or sad points. And it`s great. I suppose Hedgehog will be frontsinger in our music band and we will be backvocals. OK? And one more suprise - Dinka lived in the US! Could you tell us about it please. It`s very interesting. |

I'm still sick. Would you like caughing and sneezing singer?
Really interesting!!! |

Dear Hedgehog, I wish you to be healthy as soon as possible cos we have to rehearse quite soon I recommend you hot tea with good cognac |

Dear friends, I was in the States only once and worked as a camp counselor near LA, CA. As plus of working in that city I had a chance to visit Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Universal Studios, Disnayland and other interesting places. This trip was a good experience and practice of English (I had nobody to speak Russian to, only English ). If you want to know more don't hesitate to ask. Is the rehearsal soon? I need to buy felt boots asap.) Hedgehog, I think a caughing and sneezing singer is not a best singer that's why establish your health, we need a healthy frontsinger . We, backvocals, will help you as we can. Yes, Victorian? Hedgehog, drink with cranberries or honey always helps me to recover. Try, maybe it will help you too. |

Dear Hedgehog, how are you? Much better I hope:) By the way, I couldn't find the song CATS IN THE CRADLE by the link you had given, found it in the search. Is it the one by Harry Chapin? So familiar song and, you are right, rather old. When was it sung for the first time? Dear victorian, we can start with the song you suggested, but it's not only in English:), can hear Russian words. What is about to continue our concert with this one - Tears in heaven - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7g2IlaDLVLo&feature=related |

Dear Victorian, are you a member of that Book Swap Club? Do you often visit such meetings? I am sure it's a good idea to meet native speakers. I have seen this message only today. My husband gave me an electronic book as a present for NY eve. So now I can probably reed any book I find in the Internet. It was my dream for more than half a year:) Dear friends, how did you spend you NY vacations? I also suggest to discuss websites which help us to improve our English. As for me one of my favourite electronic dictionaries is Multitran http://multitran.ru |

Dinka A great gift! I use my PDA for reading books, it's very convinient to take it to public transport. I was at the Red sea during my NY vacation. It was really strange feeling when I was diving in water on 1st of January Also I posted some photos here about my walking in the Aravah desert. My favourite website about foreign languages is WordReference. http://forum.wordreference.com/forumdisplay.php?f=6 - the link goes to 'English Only' forum. |
